Postnatal parent and baby yoga classes from newborn to toddler create a warm and friendly atmosphere, promoting enjoyment and confidence in the handling of babies and in ways of relating to our children. Babies have open hearts and minds and are ready to embrace new experiences. The shared experience for both parent and baby encourages early bonding and creates a secure and happy foundation of well-being. We see the development of mutual respect and understanding and the expression of pleasure and delight.

Baby yoga provides the stimulation of touch, movement and rhythm, as well as the benefits of deep relaxation. The series of sequences encourage flexibility and bring balance and harmony to the body systems. Each movement supports the baby's individual development, strengthening the physical body and maintaining flexibility. Tactile stimulation contributes to the development of the brain and the nervous system.

Baby yoga can help to settle babies and to improve sleep patterns. The movements and massage will aid digestion and give relief to colicky babies. Yoga will promote normal healthy growth preventing many problems from occurring.

What the baby yoga classes cover


Our baby yoga course in Cambridge is run in 6 week sessions for newborn to mobile babies. Classes include baby yoga and massage for overall strengthening and development. There is a balance of stretching and relaxing sequences. Songs and rhymes are co coordinated with some of the movements. Postnatal yoga is included for Mums and each class finishes with a joint relaxation for parent and baby.

Dads are very welcome too and will benefit equally from the yoga and the interaction with their baby. There is time for discussion and to make new friendships. Many parents and babies meet afterwards in the cafe for coffee or lunch. A wonderful opportunity to find the support you may need through the first months and to have some fun with your baby too!

Birthlight Toddler Yoga is designed for toddlers and pre-school children with their parents. It allows you to continue practising yoga alongside your growing child and to continue the physical contact with your child which they have enjoyed but which may start to diminish as they grow and become more independent. This continues the Baby Yoga approach of offering classes for toddlers with their parents, allowing them to practise yoga together and make it part of their everyday lives.

Babies younger than 5 months are welcome at our Nurturing Baby Massage classes.

These classes will prepare you to join baby swimming for the first time or will keep you exercising and focused on key skills. Run by Sally Lomas, the founder of Joyful Dolphin Swim and an international teacher trainer with extensive experience of both land and water baby development.

Some of the benefits you will enjoy include:

  • Communication with your baby with strong development of trust and understanding
  • Baby holds are learnt which then naturally transfer to the water environment
  • Enhances physical co-ordination and strengthens the whole of baby’s body
  • Promotes brain development and stimulation of all the senses
  • Strengthens core muscle needed for rotation in all swimming
  • Learning songs that connect to sequences and will be familiar when swim classes start again
  • You will feel more relaxed yourself and comfortable about handling your baby in the water
